"The Capital Alumni Network (CAN) serves Washington, DC metropolitan area college and university alumni chapters, and alumni from schools for which there is no local chapter, by creating an environment in which alumni may satisfy their educational, networking, public service, social and athletic goals. Through a cadre of mediums, CAN also acts as a conduit and resource for information-sharing and event-planning that serve a variety of interests. We strive to convey our passion for intercollegiate spirit while fostering camaraderie among our individual and chapter membership. "

The purpose of CAN is to foster activities, networking, friendship and intercollegiate spirit between local alumni club members; to create a social forum where there is interaction between university and college alumni chapters and their members; to provide a source for activity-planning information and resources; and to participate in activities that display the diversity and strengths of the various Capital-area alumni chapters."
CAN conducts monthly meetings in Arlington for representatives of over 220 Washington, DC metropolitan area alumni chapters to share ideas and to partner on certain chapter events.
