Captial Alumni Network BOARD STRUCTURE
Voting members
  • Any chapter that abides by the committee requirements for membership (listed under committees section) may join the Advisory Committee and enjoy voting rights in the organization.
  • A chapter does not have to be an AC member to participate as a general member of CAN.
  • Deadline for applying for AC Chapter membership (for voting rights) is March 2nd, 2008. Any chapter wishing to join later or re-applying after a probation period must be voted in by a majority vote of the AC.
Officers (4 votes)
*  Dealine to submit your application for an Officer position is March 2nd, 2008

* Each AC member chapter gets one vote for each position.
* Requirements to run for CAN President – Preferred Two years Alumni Chapter experience or comparable board experience. 
* A vote to remove any Officer can be obtained by: (1) recommendation by another officer for EC vote;  (2) AC member’s majority can recommend removal of any officer to AC At-large for EC vote. 
* Term lengths are 2 years (exception for the one year terms in 2008 to stagger) and a 2 consecutive term limit.

1. President: 1 vote on EC; 2 year term length (first year will have 1 year term length to help stagger elections) / Preferred two years Alumni Chapter experience or comparable board experience.

2. Vice President: 1 vote on EC; 2 year term length / Preferred one year Alumni Chapter experience or comparable board experience

3. Secretary/Membership: 1 vote on EC; 2 year term length (first year will have 1 year term length to help stagger elections) / Preferred one year Alumni Chapter experience or comparable board experience

4. Treasurer: 1 vote on EC; 2 year term length / Preferred one year Alumni Chapter experience or comparable board experience


Directors (6 votes)
Appointed/removed by officers. Anyone can apply. Directors serve at the pleasure of the officers. No term limits.
1. Communications Director: 1 vote on EC
2. Social Director: 1 vote on EC
3. Sports Director: 1 vote on EC
4. Community Service Director: 1 vote on EC
5. AC Director: 1 vote on EC
6. At-large OPEN Director:  1 vote on EC


AC Reps (3 votes)
*  Deadline to submit your nomination for an AC Rep position is March 2, 2008

* Appointed by majority vote of AC members. Anyone can apply for AC position, but alumni chapter president must endorse a candidate from his chapter.
* Removal or suspension of AC member: 2/3 of AC Reps can recommend to the AC Director. The AC Director will then take a majority vote of the entire AC.

1. AC Representative: 1 vote on EC; 1 year term
2. AC Representative: 1 vote on EC; 2 year term
3. AC Representative: 1 vote on EC; 2 year term


Board Committees

1. Executive Committee
  • Made up of Officers (4), Directors (6) and AC Reps (3). No one school can hold more than FOUR positions on the EC.
  • No one alumni chapter can hold a majority of Officers or Directors positions
  • No more than one member of an alumni chapter can be an AC Representative
2. Advisory Committee
  • The purpose of this group is to provide the general membership with a voice in the policy and operations of CAN.
  • This group is headed by the AC Director who is appointed by the officers and represented on the EC by 3 representatives they elect.
  • AC chapters must have at least one delegate on at least one committee to maintain active status and retain membership. EC members can claim to represent one school for their role.
  • An annual review will be conducted to make sure that each AC Chapter is participating and therefore eligible for continued membership.

CAN Committees
1. Social -  (Chaired by one of the AC Representatives) 

This committee reports to social director.  General membership and AC serve.   Committee members can be removed by the EC at the request of the social director.

2. Sports - (Chaired by one of the AC Representatives) 

This committee reports to sports director.   General membership and AC serve. Committee members can be removed by the EC at the request of the sports director.

3. Community Service / Professional Development - (Chaired by one of the AC Representatives) 

This committee reports to community service director.  General membership and AC serve. Committee members can be removed by the EC at the request of the community service director.

4. Communications

This committee reports to the communications director. General membership and AC serve. Committee members can be removed by the EC at the request of the communications director.

CAN conducts the following types of events that will be handled by the committees and their respective chairs:

2. Community service
3. Networking (Social and professional)
