Structure for CAN (Kevin F.) – (Handouts)
We are trying to make CAN more in line with other types of organizations with boards..
Officer structure, directors, and board representation: Advisory Committee will represent the membership. AJ has a vote (his own) and there are 3 at large votes (to represent membership).
Appointment includes removal power. The 3 at large positions will vote as directors. The officers will elect the directors. The directors would be removed by the officers who appointed them and the 3 AC members will be under the aegis of the membership of the AC.
Call to have an odd number of officers to lessen the likelihood of ties. Need to have secretary/legal decoupled since it is a conflict of interest for a practicing attorney to act as has been the practice in the past.
Any questions at a later date should be directed to Kevin F.
Rob Deal (ASU) suggests not placing a term limit on directors due to a shallow number of committed folks. 1 year renewal right now.
Will the Board stagger terms so that the entire Board doesn’t turn over at once?
Greg – Role of 3 at large voters. Connect the 3 people into the committees so they have a better knowledge of how CAN works and can better represent the membership.
Simplified budget included.
Is there a thought to limiting the number of positions one school can have on the entire Board? Right now, we need help where we can get it. There was a suggestion to perhaps limit the # of folks on the EC from one school.
2008 Budget
Getting sponsorships will be key to survival.
Tournaments are the only time we can really generate revenue.
Revenue from sports leagues and sponsorship.
Jon Teitel (AU,Penn) asked if the outdoor sports could subsidize the indoor sports. Not really since the sponsorships $ is tied to the sports that have sponsorships. ie CCSP – football and McFadden’s with softball.
Not feasible at this time.
$25,000 in revenue is after expenses.
Rachel (Tennessee) – what about Social?
Elaine: Social is mainly a break even affair. Some of the $ goes back to the sport, but we are not counting on revenue.
Looking to offset costs through sponsorships. Would like to have a membership card
Softball commissioner filled. Other positions still open.
Call for additional questions and a reminder to direct any future questions to Kevin Folk.
Meeting adjourned at 8:38.
